The One Practice That Will Change Your Planning Experience

Wedding planning is one of the most exciting seasons of your life — but it can also quietly take over every conversation, every dinner, and every quiet moment together if you’re not careful. One of the first things I recommend to every couple I work with: schedule a weekly date night with one simple rule — no wedding talk allowed. It sounds small, but it makes all the difference.

As you plan your wedding, it is easy to let it consume every one of your conversations as a couple. Sometimes, couples don’t realize it’s happening! This often leads to unnecessary stress and lessened enthusiasm when it comes to the big day. The way to prevent this? Schedule weekly date nights with one golden rule: no wedding talk allowed.

This is a practice we instill in each of our couples from the get-go. Now, don’t hear what we are not saying. Planning your wedding is such an exciting season of your life, and it is so fun to talk about. However the quickest road to burnout is over-discussing a topic. So why not schedule some cutesy date nights where the wedding chit chat is pushed aside?

Take us up on this practice – and if you think it will be a challenge for you at first, we will even give you a few date night ideas that will keep your mind off of the wedding:

  • Go to a local concert or comedy show
  • Attend a wine or beer tasting
  • Plan a game night
  • Attend a cooking class
  • Go on a bike ride
  • Schedule a couple’s massage
  • Attend a sporting event
  • Go axe throwing (this one may help relieve some stress, too)
